Technology Recommendations

Since many NCC classes have an online component, it is recommended that students bring a Chromebook that can connect to Wi-Fi and has a compliant version of an internet browser (Chrome, Firefox or Edge) or a laptop to class which meets the following standards:

  • 8GB RAM minimum 64 bit, 16GB is recommended
  • Intel Core i7/AMD A7 processor or higher
  • Wireless networking card for campus
  • Solid-state hard drive
  • Functional usb ports
  • Currently supported version of OS

Using a Chromebook or any laptop that can connect to Wi-Fi and has a compliant version of an internet browser (Chrome, Firefox or Edge), students can easily gain access to the Okta Portal to check email, access Canvas, complete homework assignments, and/or connect to the Apporto Desktop - General Purpose Computer to access some if not all of the academic software assigned for use in the course(s) being taken.

Some academic programs like Computer Engineering, Data Analytics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering, etc. may use software applications that may require a faster processor or additional RAM.  If planning to purchase a laptop, make sure to check with your academic program for any specialized software that may be needed.

MAC and/or Apple tablets are not recommended because they often encounter software or browser compatibility issues.

Although it is not required to bring a laptop to all classes, it is a recommendation. Please see your syllabus for specific course requirements.
