Students and International Travel

Students who are taking classes and traveling outside of the United States 48 continental states will be required to contact the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs (AVPSA) in writing 30 days in advance to request access to college systems & applications such as email, Teams, Canvas, etc for the period they are traveling.

The continental 48 states excludes Alaska, Hawaii, or unincorporated territories like Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands or America Samoa. Therefore, traveling to any of these locations will require the same AVPSA approval.

Requesting students will need to identify:

  • Begin and end dates of travel
  • Country(s) traveling to
  • Confirm that they have installed, configured and are regularly using the Okta Verify option as one of the approved MFA options for accessing the Okta Portal, Email, Canvas, etc.

When approval is received, the NCC IT department will also be notified to ensure that access is setup in coordination with the System Office.

Students traveling internationally should never rely on SMS as a form of MFA authentication.

Some specialized software required for class(es) may require a secure connection originating from within the United Stated, options are available if this is the case.
